September’s Newsletter
Dear Parents and Students in Room 9,
Wow! The month of August just flew by. I have really enjoyed getting to know your child. The students in Room 9 are so thoughtful and polite.
Thank you for attending Back to School night. This month we will continue to study reptiles. We are still watching our alligators grow. Some alligators weigh over 200 grams and measure longer than 30 centimeters. We just completed our literature study on Zack’s Alligator. We will continue with our nonfiction reading in Snap. Our unit study for this quarter will be “Family”. We started reading some “Friendship” stories in Wonders. In Social Studies, we are learning about Families Long Ago. With Common Core, we are writing daily, reading, working together, and having Accountable Talks.
It is crucial that your child reads and writes daily. This week we will be reviewing our handwriting skills in D'Nealian. I will also introduce the writing process. Our focus in writing this quarter will be narrative writing. At the end of September, we will have our first common assignment on narrative writing.
In Go math, we started working on Chapter 2 (Numbers to 1,000). We will have our (BBF) Beyond the Basic Facts first status check on Sept. 24-27. Your child must complete 70 addition facts in five minutes. We will continue to practice our addition facts. Each child must memorize these facts without counting with their fingers. (Practice, practice, and practice) Please visit the Go Math, Wonders, ScootPad, and Spelling City Websites.
Thank you to all the parent volunteers working in the classroom. It does make a difference!!!
